Merit Senior Living Holds Senior Living Executive Forum to Address Workforce Supply Shortage

by Jeff Shaw

CLIVE, Iowa — In response to a growing workforce shortage facing the aging services and long term supports and services (LTSS) industry, Merit Senior Living will host an inaugural Senior Living Executive Forum, called Convergence, to take place Friday, April 10 in Clive.

The event is for senior living leaders across the country and seeks to identify the future demands on the seniors housing industry while charting a course of action for services and education.

“The aging services and LTSS professions will be severely challenged in the coming years to meet the needs and demands of the incoming ‘silver tsunami’ of baby boomers,” says Shannon Strickler, president of LeadingAge Iowa. “With the strong preference to age in place, the anticipated need for home health aides is expected to increase over the next 10 years, while the available pool is expected to grow by only 2 percent. This poses a significant challenge, and as an industry it’s imperative that we work together to address it now and develop solutions that work.”
