Riverdale Nursing Home in the Bronx Opens Medical Behavioral Health Unit

NEW YORK CITY — Riverdale Nursing Home, a 146-bed skilled nursing facility in the Bronx, has opened a new medical behavioral health unit.

The new area will focus on patients with behavioral disturbances, but due to old age or recovery from drug or alcohol issues. The specialized unit will allow patients’ medical needs will be managed while their recovery is assisted through medications such as methadone or suboxone, as well as support from the facility’s psychiatrist, psychologist and social worker.

The 16-bed unit will have specified staff trained in the recovery of drug addiction. Patients will be included in the regular daily recreational activities along with the other residents.
