Seniors Housing Business Receives Two NAREE Awards

LAS VEGAS — Seniors Housing Business has received two awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE). The ceremony was held last week at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

The faculty of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University judged entries in the 68th annual journalism competition.

Seniors Housing Business won a silver award for Best Commercial Real Estate Trade Magazine, specifically the April-May 2017 issue. Contributors to the issue included Matt Valley, Jeff Shaw, Lynn Peisner and Jane Adler.

“The clean design of this magazine along with well-reported stories (including the story on large-scale mixed-using housing for seniors) takes what could be a dry topic and instead makes it informative,” commented the judges.

From that same issue, Seniors Housing Business also won a gold award for Best Commercial Real Estate Trade Magazine Story for an article on seniors housing seeking to integrate into mixed-use developments. “[This is a] timely story on how developers are looking beyond traditional seniors housing facilities, which essentially just have housing for seniors and nothing more, and instead are looking to have seniors housing in mixed-use facilities — all-inclusive communities with everything from retail to movie theaters to restaurants, which helps alleviate the loneliness that some seniors feel after leaving their homes,” commented the judges.
