WALTHAM, Mass. — Benchmark Senior Living has parted ways with Stephanie Handelson, its chief operating officer.
Although Benchmark did not officially release details, the company did confirm the move with a quote from Tom Grape, Benchmark’s founder and CEO.
“Stephanie has been an invaluable leader for almost eight years, as chief operating officer and president, and has continued to drive quality resident care at every Benchmark community,” says Grape. “We thank Stephanie for her compassion and service, and wish her the very best in her next endeavor.”
Handelson is a longtime industry veteran, climbing the ladder to senior vice president at Sunrise Senior Living over a 10-year stint with the company. She was hired as Benchmark’s COO in 2009 and served in the role for nearly eight years.
Benchmark, based in the Boston suburb of Waltham, is the 23rd largest operator and 32nd largest owner of seniors housing properties in the United States, according to the American Seniors Housing Association’s 2016 calculations. The company operates 51 communities totaling 4,978 units.
