SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — CareTrust REIT Inc. (NASDAQ: CTRE) has promoted David Sedgwick from chief operating officer to president. He replaces Greg Stapley, who will continue to serve as CEO and chairman.

Sedgwick is part of the San Clemente-based REIT’s original management team. He will retain his COO role while serving as president.

Sedgwick brings more than 20 years’ experience in the skilled nursing and seniors housing industries to his new role. Before helping to launch CareTrust, he served as chief human capital officer and president of corporate services at The Ensign Group Inc., overseeing back-office and in-field support for Ensign’s facilities and personally training over 100 new facility CEOs.

Sedgwick has been a licensed nursing home administrator since 2001. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.

In addition to Sedgwick’s promotion, CareTrust hired real estate and healthcare attorney James Callister as general counsel and secretary, while promoting Lauren Beale from controller to senior vice president and controller.
