SKOKIE, Ill. — Continuing care retirement community (CCRC) operator Covenant Retirement Communities has promoted Terri Cunliffe to the position of chief executive officer.
Cunliffe has served in a variety of executive leadership roles at Covenant for the past 27 years across the company’s 13 CCRCs serving approximately 5,000 seniors. As the company’s vice president of health & wellness, she created and executed programs to better connect staff and residents together.
Cunliffe started her career with Covenant in 1987 when she joined the staff of Covenant Village of Golden Valley in Golden Valley, Minn. In 1988 she moved to Covenant of Florida in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she opened the community’s assisted living facility. In 1991 she was named healthcare administrator of that location, and five years later became executive director.
Cunliffe was chair of LeadingAge Florida, formerly known as Florida Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, from 2009 to 2011. She was named FAHSA Executive of the Year in 1999 and received its chairman’s award in 2005.
Cunliffe holds a bachelor’s degree in long-term care administration from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in health services administration from Nova Southeastern University. She is licensed nursing home administrator in the state of Florida.
