SOUTH SETAUKET, N.Y. — Jefferson’s Ferry, an independently owned continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in the Long Island neighborhood of South Setauket, has unveiled plans expand the property.
The construction project is part of a larger strategic initiative launched by Jefferson’s Ferry in 2018. The expansion will add 60 independent living units and a new memory care building, while renovating the assisted living and skilled nursing areas.
In addition to the new units, the project includes a health and wellness center, fitness center, bistro, marketplace café and additional dining options.
Partners on the expansion include Greystone Communities, KDA Architects and Merlino Design.
“Interest in senior living options has remained strong on Long Island despite the uncertainty created by the coronavirus pandemic,” says Bob Caulfield, CEO of Jefferson’s Ferry. Move-ins have continued during the pandemic, he adds, and the marketing team has secured more than 70 percent of the required pre-construction deposits needed for financing.
“The challenges of aging in place were magnified during the pandemic,” says Caulfield. “The stay-at-home mandate isolated people from their families and friends and limited their access to vital support and services, including groceries, medications and other essential supplies.”
