URBANDALE, Iowa — Des Moines-based nonprofit owner/operator Lifespace Communities Inc. has hired James Robinson as executive director of Deerfield Retirement Community, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale.

Robinson served over nine years as chief operating officer and vice president of operations with Christian Homes Inc. and Wesley Retirement Services. He is a graduate of Lincoln Christian University in Illinois.

Robinson’s experience with new campus development was part of the reason for hiring him, as Deerfield is currently undergoing a $9 million renovation and expansion.

With 12 CCRCs comprising 4,084 units, Lifespace is the 32nd largest owner and 28th largest operator of seniors housing properties in the U.S., according to 2015 data from the American Seniors Housing Association.
