ST. LOUIS and MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Lutheran Senior Services (LSS), a faith-based, nonprofit operator based in St. Louis, has agreed to merge with Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, a Middletown-based nonprofit operator.
The agreement will bring Diakon’s senior living operations and four life plan communities under LSS management and form the 12th largest nonprofit seniors housing organization in the country, according to the two companies.
The combined entity will features nearly $350 million in annual revenues across 12 life plan communities, one assisted living community and nine affordable seniors housing communities, as well as home-based services in three states (Missouri, Illinois, and Pennsylvania).
“This was a strategic decision made by both our organizations,” says Scott Habecker, Diakon president and CEO. “This creates a larger senior living organization with an even greater competitive advantage, while also allowing Diakon to focus our resources on the growth of our diversified portfolio of affordable seniors housing and children and family services.”
LSS currently supports 2,800 employees and 4,000 residents, while Diakon supports 700 employees and 1,300 residents.
The transaction is pending regulatory approvals, with an anticipated closing sometime this summer.
