ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Argentum, an Alexandria-based seniors housing industry association, has elected Tim Buchanan is the new chairman of its Board of Directors. Buchanan is the president and CEO of Legend Senior Living.
The election occurred at the 2018 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference held this week in San Diego.
Buchanan helped to pioneer the assisted living concept across the nation nearly 30 years ago. Legend Senior Living is based in Wichita, Kan., and is owner and operator of 40 communities in Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma.
Buchanan was the first chairman of the Senior Living Certification Commission, an independent, nonprofit organization committed to establishing credentialing programs for professionals working in senior living.
In addition to Buchanan’s election, Randy Richardson, president of developer Vi, was elected to fill the vice chairman’s role formerly held by Buchanan, and John Moore, Atria Senior Living chairman and CEO, was elected to serve as secretary. Loren Shook, Silverado president, CEO, and chairman, is now the immediate past board chairman.
Several other officers were also re-elected to serve another term, including: Ed Kenny, LCS chairman, as public policy committee chairman; Bruce Mackey, Five Star Senior Living president & CEO, as treasurer; and Pat Mulloy, as vice chairman.
Additionally, several new directors were elected to join the board: Scott Brinker, EVP and CIO, HCP; John Goodey, EVP and CFO, Welltower; Chris Hyatt, COO, New Perspective Senior Living; and Mary Sue Patchett, EVP – community and field operations, Brookdale. Additionally, two new directors were elected to the board as ex officio members: Kathy Fiery, director, division of assisted living/alternative services, Health Care Association of New Jersey; and Gayle Kvenvold, president and CEO, LeadingAge Minnesota.
