SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. — The Ensign Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ENSG), an owner-operator based in San Juan Capistrano, has acquired nine skilled nursing facilities in Texas, South Carolina and Arizona across three separate transactions.

In the first transaction, Ensign purchased six properties in Texas:

  • Brodie Ranch Nursing and Rehabilitation, a 120-bed facility located in Austin;
  • Onion Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 125-bed facility in Austin;
  • Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 122-bed facility in Austin;
  • West Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 125-bed facility in Austin;
  • Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 118-bed facility in San Antonio; and
  • Mystic Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 119-bed facility in San Antonio.

Each of these acquisitions will be subject to a long-term, triple-net lease.

“These acquisitions are a perfect fit in our Austin and San Antonio markets and are facilities we’ve had our eye on for some time,” says Barry Port, Ensign’s CEO.

“We look forward to welcoming these facilities and partnering with our local markets and clusters to enhance the level of care provided at these facilities,” adds Andy Ashton, president of Keystone Care LLC, Ensign’s Texas-based portfolio subsidiary.

In the second transaction, Ensign acquired the operations of Oak Harbor Healthcare, a 132-bed skilled nursing facility in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and Oak View Health and Rehabilitation, a 190-bed skilled nursing facility in Conway, South Carolina.

“We are thrilled to be growing our South Carolina market,” says Port. “For years we have carefully reviewed opportunities in and around South Carolina to add to our existing operations there and feel like these two facilities are a great fit.”

“These facilities represented a great geographical and strategic fit in South Carolina,” adds Adam Willits, president of Hopewell Healthcare LLC, Ensign’s South Carolina-based subsidiary.

In the third and final transaction, Ensign acquired the real estate and operations of Fountain Hills Post Acute, a 64-bed skilled nursing facility in Fountain Hills, Arizona. A subsidiary of Standard Bearer Healthcare REIT Inc., Ensign’s captive real estate company, acquired the real estate. Bandera Healthcare is Ensign’s Arizona-based subsidiary.

“We are very excited to add this skilled nursing operation in Maricopa County, where we have a mature market and leadership,” says Port.

All of these acquisitions bring Ensign’s growing portfolio to 268 healthcare operations, 26 of which also include senior living operations, across 13 states. Ensign subsidiaries, including Standard Bearer, now own 107 real estate assets.
