SILVER SPRING, Md. — Enterprise Community Development has announced plans to redevelop Springvale Terrace, a community in Silver Spring, in partnership with Seabury Resources for Aging.

Originally built in the 1960s, the property features 146 units. The community was one of the first to be developed under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’s) Section 202 program in the Washington, D.C. region.

Redevelopment plans include the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a new 236-unit property, which will be branded as The Springvale. Residences will be reserved for seniors earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income. Amenities at the redeveloped community will include a fitness center, library, media rooms, gathering spaces and a central outdoor courtyard.

Current residents were relocated as part of the redevelopment process. Completion of the project, which was designed by KGD Architecture, is scheduled for 2028. MHG and Bozzuto are providing engineering and construction services, respectively.

Financing sources include HUD, the State of Maryland, Montgomery County, Enterprise Community Investments and Capital One. The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County is also supporting the redevelopment, and 47 units will receive project-based rental assistance through HUD’s Restore-Rebuild initiative.
