ATLANTA — Mercy Housing Southeast has hired H. Granvel Tate III as its regional director of real estate development. In this role, Tate will oversee the development and acquisition of mixed income and affordable housing properties in the Southeastern United States, with a specific focus on the greater Atlanta market.
Mercy Housing Southeast has developed or has acquired over 2,800 homes for seniors, families and people with special needs in Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.
Prior to joining Mercy Housing, Tate spent four years as the president and CEO of 1025 Advisors Inc., a real estate development advisory firm based in Atlanta and Gulfport, Miss. He began his career at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in the Financial Institutions Group, where he worked on mergers, acquisitions and public offerings for banks, insurers, broker/dealers and asset managers.
Over the course of his more than 20 years in the industry, Tate has worked for the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, Forest City Ratner Cos., Bank of America and General Growth Properties.
From 2010 to 2014, Tate served as the neighborhood revitalization manager with Invest Atlanta, Atlanta’s Development Authority. In that capacity, he was responsible for underwriting and business development for the multifamily portfolio in the housing finance group. He managed five affordable housing finance programs including tax-exempt bond financing and flexible mezzanine financing.
Tate earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida A&M University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He serves as a board member of The Guild, a co-living company focused on social change, and is a member of the Robert Toigo Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing leadership and development opportunities for minorities in finance.
