DANVILLE, Va. — Commonwealth Assisted Living has agreed to acquire Stratford House, an assisted living community in Danville, for an undisclosed price. Danville is located on the southern edge of Virginia along the North Carolina border.

In addition to the planned acquisition, Commonwealth announced it will improve services with a $3.5 million expansion of the community. The project will include adding memory care services.

Stratford House opened in 1990 and has been owned and operated by a nonprofit board since 2008. The buildings are an adaptive reuse of the former Stratford College, which operated from 1930 to 1974. The main hall previously housed the Danville College for Young Ladies from 1883 to 1897.

Stratford House will be the 23rd community, all in Virginia, owned and operated by Commonwealth Assisted Living.
