Covenant to Renovate Assisted Living, Memory Care Wing at CCRC in Illinois

BATAVIA, Ill. — Covenant Retirement Communities is renovating and expanding Harry Ekstam Assisted Living, the assisted living and memory care wing of The Holmstad, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Batavia, 40 miles west of Chicago.

Chicago-based contractor Joseph J. Duffy Co. will perform the renovations to the common spaces, including relocation of a dining room and a more visible entrance. BLDD Architects, also based in Chicago, designed the project.

Three wings named Hawthorn, Maple and Willow will make up the assisted living facility. The relocation of a dining room to the second floor will open enough room for the new entrance and vestibule at the 36,000-square-foot facility. The new entrance will be visible from the Town Center, which is the hub of CCRC.

The dining rooms for Hawthorn and Maple will also be updated, along with the interior décor of all common areas. The number of memory care apartments in the facility will nearly double as a result of the project.

Covenant Retirement Communities is a faith-based, nonprofit seniors housing operator serving 5,000 residents at 15 retirement communities.
