Lifespace Completes $39.5M Expansion at Community Near Pittsburgh

UPPER ST. CLAIR, Pa. — Lifespace Communities has completed its $39.5 million expansion project at Friendship Village of South Hills in Upper St. Clair, approximately 12 miles southwest of downtown Pittsburgh.

Started in the summer of 2017, the project added a new building with 50 assisted living apartments, 32 memory care suites, and various amenities and wellness services.

The substantial local aging population was a catalyst for the expanded offerings. Nearly 20 percent of people in Alleghany County are 65 or older, according to the United States Census Bureau.

“As the Baby Boomer generation retires, there’s a growing need for quality senior living options not only in the Pittsburgh area, but nationwide,” said Larry Smith, interim president and CEO at Lifespace Communities, Friendship Village’s parent company. “It’s a privilege to spearhead projects like this that will have a significant positive impact on older adults and their families.”

Perkins Eastman Architects designed the expansion, with LECESSE Construction serving as the general contractor.
