McCamant & Durrett Architects Designs LGBT-Friendly Cohousing Development

DURHAM, N.C. — McCamant & Durrett Architects has completed design of Village Hearth Senior Cohousing in Durham, with the company claiming it as the first LGBT seniors cohousing community in North America.

Construction has started, with completion scheduled for spring 2020. The development features 28 single-story residences on a 15-acre lot.

Amenities include a 2,600-square-foot common house with a kitchen, dining/meeting room, sitting area, gas fireplace, laundry room, exercise studio and art studio. Other plans include the possibility of a separate workshop and storage building, along with a dog park, gardens, walking trails, and fire pit after residents move in.

According to the developers, all but four homes have are reserved with by residents between ages 55 and 73.
