LOUISVILLE, Ky. — John Moore has stepped down as CEO of Atria Management Co., a Louisville-based company and the second largest operator of seniors housing in the United States with over 40,000 units. The company has appointed Holly Belter-Chesser to replace him.

The move is part of a planned leadership transition process. Belter-Chesser joined Atria in 2008 and has served in key leadership roles over the past 15 years, including most recently as chief financial officer and chief administrative officer.

After 25 years with the company, Moore will remain a member of the board of directors to help ensure a smooth transition.

Atria, already a major player in the seniors housing industry, has grown extremely quickly in recent years. The company bought Holiday Retirement in 2021, which at that time was the second largest operator in the country. As of June 1, 2023, Atria operated 348 properties totaling 42,501 units in 44 states, according to the American Seniors Housing Association. The company also has holdings in Canada and offers home care services.
